The Best Anti Aging Techniques for Less than $10
How much are you spending on anti-aging creams right now?
Do you have a regular routine of facial creams, makeup removers, and sunscreen?
Considering the fact that a quality wrinkle cream can cost upwards of $40 a month, and then combine that amount with eye creams and other treatments, it’s easy to see how the money adds up over time.
According to statistics, in 2005 American women spent about $664 million dollars anti-aging creams and products, but now that number has jumped up to a startling $2 Billion.
From exotic silks to hand-harvested ingredients grown in foreign countries, we tend to dish out the big bucks in order to stay “forever young,” even if these ingredients have not been proven to work.
While some of the best anti-aging creams do in fact increase cell turnover and restore collagen, there is only a select few that fit into this category.
However, you don’t have to spend a fortune in products if you give your body and your skin the care and attention it needs to stay healthy.
Research has shown that simply slowing down and cutting back on stress may be all you need to keep your skin looking smooth and firm.
Stress and Aging
According to Dr. Linda Papadopoulous,”Stress can cause premature aging. Chronic stress causes the adrenal glands to overproduce cortisol which decreases the skin’s ability to regenerate . . . When cortisol is high, we also see a drop in the production of the anti-aging hormone known as DHEA.”
Additionally, in a study conducted by the University of California, scientists observed the effects of stress on 50 women – half were under chronic stress due to caring for a love one suffering from dementia The study observed that the protective ends of the chromosomes, known as telomeres, were shorter in the women suffering stress than the control group. Short telomeres have often been associated with premature aging and wrinkles.
Fight Stress and Wrinkles at the Same Time
In our society where everyone is rushing around to finish errands and attend meetings, it can often seem that chronic stress is unavoidable. Fortunately, there are ways to cut back on stress with the best anti-aging techniques we could find.
Take Time to Breathe
When the body is stressed, our heart rate and blood pressure increases. Yet according to Susan Blum, M.D, “taking deep-breathing breaks stops our nerve endings from firing off damaging neuropeptides.”
Air is still free – so feel free to breathe as much of it as you can possibly handle. Just don’t hyperventilate.
While it may seem that heading to the gym after a stressful day at work simply adds to your mile-long to-do list, exercising regularly can help release endorphins while reducing stress on the body.
Whether it’s a full 90 minute yoga session or a quick revitalizing jog through the park, simply getting the blood flowing can give you that extra energy boost you need to stay active and feel young.
Susan Blum also adds, “It’s less about how long you exercise for and more about doing it regularly, which trains your body to relax quickly.”
Spend Some Time Between The Sheets
You may not need another excuse to have sex more often, but here’s some food for thought:
“[Sex] releasers beta endorphins, which help protect skin’s collagen, and oxytocin, which lowers the stress chemical cortisol,” says Amy Wechsler, M.D, New York Dermatologist.
Additionally, David Weeks, MD at Royal Edinburgh Hospital explains, “the key ingredients for looking younger are staying active . . . and maintaining a good sex life.”
In a study involving over 3,500 people ages 30-101, researchers found that “sex helps you look between four and seven years younger.”
Ok, so these creams aren’t necessarily less than $5, but they’ll definitely fit within your budget, and as mentioned earlier, these are one of the few wrinkle creams that will give you wrinkle fighting peptides without having to pay a fortune in advertising and celebrity endorsements.
