StriVectin-SH Age Protect SPF 30

What is StriVectin-SH Age Protect SPF 30?
This is a cream that claims to be effective as both a sunscreen and an anti-aging cream. It claims to do this in two ways. First, it claims to block the UV rays that age the skin, which damage the skin and cause it to look older, darker, and less moisturized. Secondly, it uses NIA 114, which is niacin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Being able to reduce wrinkles while you are also protecting your skin from the sun is a tempting idea, but we need to look at the ingredients to see if this product will truly deliver.

Benefits of StriVectin-SH Age Protect SPF 30
We believe that niacin will be relatively effective at reducing wrinkles, since it has been proven to do so.
Possible Side Effects for StriVectin-SH Age Protect SPF 30
This product contains octocrylene, which has actually been proven to increase DNA damage and melanoma. This means that people who wear it are actually MORE likely to suffer skin damage than those who wear no sunscreen at all.
Conclusion
We would not recommend this product. Even if it does have benefits as an anti-aging cream, if you happen to go out in the sun (which obviously would be plan if one is applying sunscreen) then there is a chance that this product could be extremely harmful to your health.
