Wrinkle Prevention: What You Need to Know
Wrinkles occur naturally with age, but there are many things that can cause wrinkles to come prematurely.
Simply by using many of the products available on the market you could be harming your skin. This is because many of the ingredients that are listed in skin products are damaging for your body, particularly your skin—which may cause the early onset of wrinkles.
An excerpt from the book Organic Body Care Recipes, by Stephanie Tourles teaches us that: “According to Myra Michelle Eby, founder of MyChelle Dermaceuticals, a large number of the chemicals and artificial fragrances in our daily applications of body care products have names that might sound like Greek to us – but because our skin may absorb up to 60 percent of them, they can all be potentially harmful. Once in our bodies, our fatty tissue stores these chemicals, leading to a host of possible problems. The solution to avoiding these chemicals: Read the label!
Parabens: “estrogen mimickers and chemical preservatives found in almost all body care products,” as Eby puts it, can affect those who have what’s known as paraben-mix allergy, resulting in rashes after applying a product. In fact, some topical parabens have even been detected in human breast tumors! In addition, paraben allergic sensitivity is not uncommon.”
Preventative Measures
One of the most significant and simple actions you can take to prevent wrinkles is by wearing sunscreen. It used to be thought that only UVB sunrays caused skin damage, but recent studies have proven that both UVA and UVB rays are bad for skin.
When looking for sunscreen always check the label and make sure it has a chemical called avobenzone. It shows up on labels under the name Parsol 1789, and products that contain it often say “broad-spectrum protection” on the front of the bottle.
Most sunscreens only last about two hours before they begin degrading. It’s important to have titanium dioxide or zinc oxide in the mix to ensure long-lasting protection. These products are gentler on the skin, and they protect against the sun by actually blocking and scattering the light.
Health & Nutrition
What you’re putting into your body will reflect on your face. Drinking plenty of water and choosing not to smoke or use excess alcohol will decrease premature aging by a significant margin. Taking your health seriously, reading labels, and being wise about what you’re putting into your body and onto your skin will enhance show on your face.
Oh, and ahntoer cleanser that I use every morning (I use Cetaphil in the evening) is Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Power-Cream Wash, $8. It contains salicylic acid and has a cooling sensation, but it also has green tea and cucumber extract to reduce redness and irritation. Keeps my acne at bay.
